Calling All Operators: Who Will Run Sioux City's Land Based Casino?

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

Right now we don't know if Sioux City's Argosy Casino will sink or swim, but that hasn't stopped folks from making a bet on a new land based casino.

There are still the questions of where it'll go, and when it'll be built, but the main focus: who will run the place?

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission's taking applications for casino operators until November 1st.

Tuesday KPTH FOX 44 called a lot of the companies who already run casinos in Iowa to see if any are interested in applying to run a new Sioux City casino.

A lot of them didn't want to comment, but at least one, Caesars Entertainment out of Las Vegas, said it's looking at the opportunity but couldn't say much more.

Caesars Entertainment runs both Harrah's and the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs.

With a downtown destination likely for a new casino what does Siouxland want it to look like?

Are there any specific amenities folks would like to see?

"A good buffet dinner, good things to eat," said Greg Miller of Sioux City. "Maybe some entertainment would be nice also."

"I'm thinking if it brings money, jobs, and revenue here to Sioux City, that's what the people need, then that would be great," said Wendy Bailey of Sioux City.

FOX 44 & KMEG 14's Facebook friends also weighed in, you can see their comments here: http://www.facebook.com/KMEG14

But what about Sioux City's current casino? Will the Argosy stay afloat?

Both Penn National and Missouri River Historical Development didn't have any updates on the casino's March 2013 contract extension as of July 17th.
