SIOUX CITY, IA -
A man is in jail one day after a grocery store manager was attacked while trying to stop a shoplifter.
Wednesday Sioux City Police arrested 18-year-old Stanislaus Firecloud, he was picked up right around 11:00 AM.
Firecloud's being charged with first degree robbery.
Police believe he's the person you can see in a surveillance video taken from the Select Food Market in Sioux City Tuesday.
Right now Police believe Firecloud was trying to steal two cans of malt liquor from the store right around noon Tuesday.
When he was confronted by the Store Manager, Police believe Firecloud hit the Store Manager in the face.
A witness says he struck the Store Manager in the face with a crowbar.
Officer Chad Sheehan with the Sioux City Police Department says this type of robbery attempt in the middle of the day, in broad daylight is unusual, but basically a shoplifting attempt can happen any time a store is open.
"Thefts occur all times of the day and night and in businesses when you're talking about shoplifting and stuff like that, anytime the business is open it's susceptible to people shoplifting," said Sheehan.
The Store Manager was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City Tuesday, he was being treated for wounds on his face from that crow bar attack.
There is still no word on his condition.
