A man is hit in the face with a crowbar in broad daylight outside a Sioux City grocery store.
That's what a witness says happened Tuesday afternoon after a man tried to shoplift at the Select Food Market.
Larissa Heard, the Assistant Store Manager, says she saw a man hit the Store Manager in the face with a crowbar right at the front doors of the store.
"(I was) scared, nervous, just, was it really that serious?" said Heard. "It probably wasn't anything that was that expensive to assault somebody and cause them to be injured."
According to Heard, at around noon Tuesday, a man tried to shoplift.
That's when the Store Manager confronted him about it outside, then, Heard says, in broad daylight the man hit the Store Manager in the face with a crowbar.
"It is something you have to be cautious of no matter what side of town you work on, or where you work," said Heard.
Heard says she doesn't know what the man was trying to steal, but she's begging the people who live in the neighborhood to help keep the Select Food Market safe.
"We do our best to be polite and kind and accommodate the people here, so we just would appreciate it if you just be more considerate of us and not take people's lives into your hands, because that's about basically what it is, over nothing more than a couple dollars worth of stuff," said Heard. "And this is a good store and we do care about the people who come in here."
FOX 44 is still waiting for the report on the incident from the Sioux City Police Department.
Until then the name of the victim, as well as his condition, will be unknown, as well as if Police have any idea who did this.
