SIOUX CITY, IA -
Summer construction season is about to get a whole lot worse for drivers in South Sioux City.
From Gordon Drive to I-29 road construction crews are all over Siouxland, and starting Saturday morning drivers coming off Highway 20 will feel the pain.
When you see those orange cones and orange barrels you know it's road construction time, and starting Saturday, July 7th, two new detours could add minutes to your morning commute.
From 7:00 AM Saturday the Eastbound and Westbound ramps from Highway 20 onto I-29 Southbound will close.
The Eastbound ramp will be out of commission for five weeks, the Westbound ramp for 10.
"The work is not going to occur on the ramps, the work is going to occur on I-29 Southbound," said Dakin Schultz, a District Planner with the Iowa Department of Transportation's District 3 in Sioux City.
A section of the interstate near Singing Hills will be torn up, but where exactly will you be driving for the next few months?
The detours are pretty simple.
If you're in Iowa and going West on Highway 20, you'll get onto I-29 Northbound.
From there you'll take the Floyd Boulevard exit and turn around, getting back onto I-29 again, this time heading south.
The detour from the other direction will take you a little bit longer, you'll be going up and over the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
If you're in Nebraska heading East on Highway 20, you'll have to go North to go South once again.
You'll drive onto Highway 77 North, going through South Sioux City.
You'll cross the Vets Bridge - which is also under construction - and take the Wesley Parkway exit south on to I-29.
Road construction and detours: staples of summertime in Siouxland.
When you hit the road Saturday morning give yourself plenty of time to get where you're going and remember:
"Follow the signs and please be patient," said Schultz.
More road construction on the way.
From 9:00 PM Sunday, July 8th, to 3:00 AM Monday, July 9th, Singing Hills Boulevard will be closed for bridge work.
