VERMILLION, SD -
The Annual Fourth of July Celebration in Vermillion, South Dakota is sure to be a hit.
With Inflatable castles and slides, and of course, a fireworks show at the end of the night. And are plenty of ways to stay cool.
"Were gonna have ice cream, water, sodas, pop, beer, all that type of stuff, so I think beverage sales are going to be brisk today," said Steve Howe, the event organizer.
That's because the weather wasn't so brisk, in fact it was down right hot, sticky and humid.
But that didn't stop the Boy scouts from Troop 66. They came out in full force, selling water and handmade survival bracelets. Each one packs in 10 feet of cord.
"Like if you ever were lost or in a survival situation, you could easily unravel it and use it for whatever you need," said boyscout, Tristan Meadows.
The money they make from the bracelets will help replace old tents and equipment, and pay for camping trips.
Marcella Donner also came out, and she brought a few delicate items with her.
"I've always just loved glass, and I've always hated seeing old pieces of glass get thrown away and so I started putting together flowers like these, just by taking old plates and putting them together," she said.
And together they make these, beautiful creations that Donner calls Glass Art. She uses other glass items too, like ash trays, candle holders, bowls and jars. And it all makes a very unique gift.
"Its' definitely something they're probably not gonna get from anybody else," said Donner.
They've set up in the park for a day of fun, without forgetting the true meaning of the holiday.
"Its just that pride in country, pride in our community, it's a great time to get together with family and friends, and celebrate the great country we live in," said Howe.
"FREEDOM," said the boyscouts.
