Repeal & Replace: Senator Grassley Speaks On Affordable Care Act

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

"I think that you see the people not liking the federal government to tell them they have to do something they don't want to do," said Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley Tuesday, speaking on the "Affordable Care Act."

The Senator took a tour of Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City Tuesday morning, and the talk quickly shifted from popcorn to healthcare.

Even though the act was declared constitutional, Senator Grassley says the debate over what's commonly called "Obamacare" isn't over.

The Senator says the current U.S. healthcare system is far from perfect, which is why he believes "Obamacare" needs to not only be repealed, but replaced.

"The government can say that you may have to buy something that you don't want to buy and if you don't want to do it, pay a tax," said Senator Grassley."So the result ends up being the same and that's a disappointment."

That's what Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley had to say on the "Affordable Care Act" Tuesday.

He's one of many conservatives upset by the Supreme Court's ruling of the act as constitutional, essentially saying you pay an extra tax if you don't have health insurance.

"It's going to be obnoxious to the people of this country that the IRS is going to be enforcing this through the tax code," said Senator Grassley. "Because outside the fact that people don't want the government to tell them what to do, it's worse that the IRS is going to tell them what they have to do and police it to see if it's done, because the IRS is feared."

Senator Grassley says from here on out trying to get the act repealed is only the first step in a long process, crafting a bill with fewer regulations while driving down the cost of health care.

"Replacement is very important because none of us are going to say that the healthcare system in the United States is perfect the way it is," said Senator Grassley. "It needs to be reformed."

Senator Grassley has been on a tour of Iowa from Akron to Ida Grove during Congress's 4th of July break.

Grassley also spoke on the upcoming Presidential Election Tuesday, saying he doesn't think the "Affordable Care Act" will be the most important issue.

He believes Mitt Romney will mainly focus on jobs and the economy heading into November.
