Mural Draws Attention To Siouxland Children's Museum

SIOUX CITY, IA -

It's not open yet, but excitement for the Children's Museum of Siouxland is building as the vision is being showcased in full color.

A bright, colorful, and kid friendly mural is showing off just the beginning of what the Children's Museum of Siouxland plans on bringing to the community.

The museum is envisioned as a family–oriented, hands–on children's museum with emphasis on providing educational value while fostering a child's creativity and imagination.

And the museum is already getting attention.

"The Mural Project that's happening right now is collaboration between ISU Design West and the children's museum, and Irene Lopez has been doing an incredible job of drawing attention to the children's museum for us," said museum Executive Director Kari Kellen.

Artist Irene Lopez, an intern at ISU Design West, says the kids played a big role in her design plans.

"As far as the layout goes, that was my idea, and I just wanted to make something flowing, and that kids would like to look at. And I just looked at the logo and that's where I got the inspiration. I saw the gears around their name for the Children's Museum, and I thought, well why not expand on that and out it all over the windows," she said.

The building will be a part of the Pearl Street restoration project.
