SIOUX CITY, IA -
If you were outside Wednesday you could feel it: it was downright hot.
As the temperature and humidity rose in Siouxland everyone was trying to find a way to beat that heat.
Those sweltering temperatures sent many families and kids scrambling to get to the pool, the folks over at Riverside were gearing up for nearly 1,000 swimmers.
"We'd like to see around 800," said Recreation Supervisor Mandi Parker. "We've seen 600, 700 already this season."
But as some were having fun others didn't have a choice but to be outside in the heat.
"There's been a lot hotter summers than this so far," said John Hanson, Owner of Rocket Auto Wash on Gordon Drive in Sioux City.
The folks at Rocket Auto Wash are outside wiping down cars whether it's triple digits or not, but when the temperature rises they make sure to stay safe.
"When it gets hot like this one of the things we like to do is just make sure, you know, constantly say to the guys, you know, get some water, make sure you're drinking plenty of water," said Hanson.
It's not that easy for everyone to make a splash and stay cool when it's hot outside, high temperatures can be especially dangerous for the elderly.
"As we age our bodies don't react the same to the heat," said Sandy Wienhold, Case Management Director with Siouxland Aging Services. "So it's very easy for an elderly person to get overheated."
That's why the folks over at Siouxland Aging Services keep an eye on Siouxland's seniors when they deliver meals on wheels in this kind of weather.
So, whether you're working out in the heat or at the pool having fun, make sure you stay hydrated, put on that sunscreen, and stay safe.
