Sioux City Nuns Hold Prayer Vigil For Vatican Dispute

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

The sisters of Saint Francis held a wisdom prayer vigil Wednesday night.

Nearly 100 men and women turned out to St. Joseph's church in Sioux City to pray for a resolution to the theological disagreement between the Vatican and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.

The folks at the vigil hope to re-enforce communication and start with an open and honest dialogue between Rome and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, but Women Religious supporters say they fully support the work those women are been doing.

"I see them, I see their missionary work, I see their spiritual work and their spirituality and I believe they should have a voice," said Maggie Murphy.

"Very often the women are not heard, they hear in reaction, but they don't ask for a lot of input,"  said Audra Cole.

"They're out there in the trenches, they're working with the poor, they're working with the homeless, they're the ones doing the hard stuff and I think they should continue," said Tricia Currans-Sheehan.
