SIOUX CITY, IA -
A man is beaten to death with a crowbar inside his home, part of an early morning attack that also sent a woman to the hospital.
Sioux City Police say the attack happened just before 3:00 AM Wednesday morning on Sioux City's north side, but the truth is there are more questions than answers in this ongoing investigation.
It happened at a house on 39th Street Place just off Hamilton in Sioux City.
At around 3:00 AM Wednesday morning a neighbor called 911 after noticing something suspicious.
When Police got to the house they found a 54-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both beaten.
"There was a weapon, we believe, was recovered at the scene and it was a crowbar," said Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young.
The man died after he was taken to the hospital.
Later Wednesday morning Police called the man they believe is the attacker, 23-year-old James Kroll.
He was convinced to turn himself in around 10:00 AM.
"I know that there was probably some relationship between the family and this gentleman, but I couldn't confirm what it is at this point," said Young.
Investigators say there was another woman at the house when the attack happened, but Police don't believe she was hurt.
As for now, Police say this type of case should remind everyone to keep an eye on their neighborhood.
"We had a person who lived in the neighborhood, was familiar with it, made the call for suspicious activity," said Young. "I think people need to be aware of the neighborhood they live in, what's commonplace and what's not."
Police aren't releasing the victims' names, or even talking about a motive.
As for James Kroll, prosecutors are still considering what charges to file against him.
