SIOUX CITY, IA -
Sioux City's newly built Fire Station Number 4 has been in operation for a couple of months, and this weekend they're opening their doors to the public.
The $3 million project replaces a much smaller facility, and features safety and efficiency improvements from better storage for hazardous materials, to larger bays for the department's ever–expanding vehicles.
"It helps us tremendously, because now I don't have to worry about banging into doors, I can get in and out of the rig freely, just cuts down on my time, because I actually had to get dressed in another room and get into the rig from a different position," said firefighter Richard Anderson.
"It just shows a commitment from the City Council and the citizens to safety in Sioux City. This station will serve the north, the west, and the near–north sides of Sioux City for generations to come, and for us, for the fire department, it's a much safer station for our firefighters," said Sioux City Fire Rescue Chief Tom Everett.
And of course no firehouse would be complete without a fireman's pole.
The open house will be this Sunday, from 2 to 5 P.M.
