SIOUX CITY, IA -
It's no secret that Beth Storm loves cats.
And after she opened the non-profit "Paw Prints Rescue Shelter" in 2008, she's saved thousands of these furry animals from being euthanized.
"In 2011, we were able to reduce that number to 1013, here at Animal Control, and that number is now under 50," she said.
Once called Animal Control, the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center has become a new workplace for Beth, temporarily housing the cats and kittens she and her friend care for every day.
But now, she needs your help because the shelter is nearly full.
Black and tabby cats are the most euthanized cats, locally and nationally, but how could you deny the face of a cuddly cat?
Beth says, there are many faces to choose from.
"Blacks, to tuxedos, which are black and white, we have tabbys, we have orange tabbys, we have long hairs, we have short hairs, some of our cats are even front de-clawed," she said.
She tests the cats for feline leukemia, AIDS, and makes sure they have the appropriate shots.
"You adopt a cat for 35 dollars, and you have a completely vetted cat," Beth said.
All of this is being paid for by a $5,000 grant from the Missouri River Historical Development. And they're constantly applying for grants.
"We will keep the program going as long as there is funds in place, so now's a great time to come down and check us out," she said.
