SIOUX CITY, IA -
As part of Briar Cliff University's 'Camp Pylot' summer program, 17 middle school students brought their ideas for a popcorn based treat from the drawing board to a taste test in just one day.
They're learning lessons about teamwork and planning along the way. The students were given a budget of $10 and had to get all the ingredients for their new snacks within that budget.
"Because it's marshmallow in the popcorn balls, we kind of took the idea of s'mores, and put Oreo on top," said Joe Vondrak of Sioux City.
Camp organizers were impressed with the students' creativity.
"Students will come up with amazing ideas if you just give them the creativity," said Marilyn Eastman. "All they have here is popcorn and ten dollars, and they're able to come up with these phenomenal snacks, name them, market them, come up with jingles, with just a little bit of time and a little bit of freedom to do what they want to do."
Eastman says she hopes that the students learn that sometimes leadership isn't always easy, but it can be really rewarding.
The Briar Cliff University Pylot Leadership Camp continues tomorrow with a trip to see one of Sioux City's oldest businesses, Coney Island.
