SIOUX CENTER, IOWA -
Nearly one hundred people in Sioux Center, Iowa will be out of a job by the middle of September.
Early this afternoon Nemschoff announced it will close its healthcare furniture factory in Sioux Center.
According to a spokesman from Nemschoff's parent company, the factory will close in phases.
About ninety people work there right now, with thirty of them scheduled to be laid off by the end of July.
Fifty more will then be let go by the end of August and the rest by September 15th.
That's when the plant is set to close up for good.
The company says both the economy and President Obama's healthcare reform plan are partially to blame.
"There are some increasing costs associated with new federal regulatory requirements for health care furnishings, and again, the general U.S. and global economy uncertainty has added another layer of challenge," says company spokesperson Mark Sherman.
Nemschoff says it'll do what it can to help those employees find work again.
They'll be offered severance pay and benefits, along with career services programs to help them find jobs.
