Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted one teenage girl and attempted to do the same to another in Sioux City early Friday morning.
Witnesses say a thin black man dressed in dark clothes assaulted them.
He's more than 6' 4" tall, but police haven't identified a suspect yet and they're asking the public to help find him.
It happened in three neighborhoods across Sioux City between three and five o'clock Friday morning.
At around 3 AM a tall, thin black man was seen masturbating in public on a front porch in the 1100 block of West 4th street, but it was what he did next that has the folks who live in two Sioux City neighborhoods the most worried.
The man entered an unlocked door in the 2000 block of Wall Street, and while the family slept, he sexually assaulted a teenage girl.
Next, after climbing through an open window, he attempted to assault another teenage girl in the 2600 block of South Alice Street.
The girl screamed and the man ran away.
It's a case the folks who live in these quiet neighborhoods thought they'd never see happen so close to home.
"There's a lot of kids here, almost every house here has kids, and it's nice that at least we know about it so we can be prepared," said Brian Conley, who lives near one of the crime scenes in Sioux City.
As the search for the suspect continues police say it's best to not take any chances.
"You need to take the extra step to secure yourself," said Lt. Mark Kirkpatrich with the Sioux City Police Department. "Lock windows, lock doors, make sure things are safe around your own residences."
The bottom line in this case is: if you know the man police are looking for or if you have any information about this case at all, police need your help.
