SIOUX CITY, IA -
A Siouxland hospital is thanking first responders.
As part of E.M.S. Week in Iowa, Mercy Medical Center hosted a barbeque for first responders, dispatchers, and volunteers.
E.M.S. crews are first on the scene, and get patients to the hospital quickly and safely.
"They represent the hospital because they feed the hospital with patients, bring them in when they have a heart attack or stroke at home, they pick them up and bring them into the emergency department, so we just want to show our appreciation for all the work they do," said Jerry Kelly, Mercy's EMS Coordinator.
"It's great that hospitals and other people recognize the job that EMS providers do, and we really appreciate it," said Jeff Anderson with Siouxland Paramedics.
There are more than 12,000 certified EMS providers in Iowa, and more than half are dedicated volunteers.
