Tech Club To Take On Windy City

SIOUX CITY, IA -

A group of Sioux City Middle Schoolers have raised enough money to take a trip to the Windy City.

The Tech Club at West Middle School learned to create their own video games this past school year.

On Tuesday, Cargill Soy Processing presented the club with a $2,000 check. It's the last bit of fundraising they needed to venture out to Chicago this summer.

Those tech saavy students are looking forward to using everything they've learned and are excited to see a big city.

"I think it's great. I mean we all work hard to learn how to use all this technology and it's a great way for everybody to show it off and to learn even more," said Haleigh James, a seventh grader.

"It means a lot to me being able to get to make a video game and meet a lot of new friends in the process," said Laney Berke, another seventh grader.

"There's a big world out there and that they can think as big as they want to. And sometimes that's tough when you live in Sioux City and day in and day you're going to school. And this is a chance to maybe just shake their lives up a little bit in a positive way and show them again this wonderful big world we have," said Eric Berntson, a merchant for Cargill.

The students plan to Skype with folks back home while they're in Chicago. That is one piece of technology they learned in the tech club.
