SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE -
Some South Sioux City campers will have a new facility to call home this summer.
Camp Goodwill unveiled its new Achievement Center today.
The new building is replacing an 80 year old dining hall and includes a conference room, a new dining hall, and an outdoor band shell.
The center will be open year round and will allow the camp to cater to more children and service organizations in the area.
"It is a show piece when you come in here, and as you look out through the achievement center, out across the camp, the ball diamond and toward the lake there, it really is a great setting, and it's going to be the focal point of people that come out here," said Goodwill Industries President John Hantla.
The 12,000 square foot structure took two years to build and cost over $2 million.
The camp usually houses 500 campers for the summer and sees about 3,500 visitors annually.
Camp officials are hoping to see those numbers increase with the opening of the new facility.
