Tea Party Tour Rallies Siouxland Republicans

SIOUX CITY, IA -

The general election is more than six months away but some in Siouxland are already thinking politics.

The "Tea Party Express" made a swing through the state of Iowa Monday, and while organizers say support for the movement is still strong, they also admit there's a lot that needs to be done in the next six months.

More than 50 people turned out for a Tea Party rally in Riverside Park.

"This is ground zero for the presidential race," said Howard Kaloogian, Chairman of the "Our Country Deserves Better" PAC, a sponsor for the "Tea Party Express."

The crowd was rallying for changes in the national government before November's general election.

"The goal is to keep people energized and to keep people understanding that the issues haven't gone away," said Kaloogian. "The Tea Party movement hasn't gone away, we're going to be stronger than ever."

But over the next six months, there's work to be done.

The party wants to win the U.S. Senate with a Republican majority in November's election.

On Monday organizers said there's a need to stop the cost and size of the federal government, and winning the President's seat wouldn't be too bad either.

An objective "Tea Party Express" organizers say Iowa will play a major role in doing.

"It's a toss up right now," said Kaloogian. "It went for Obama last time but I don't know that it will this next time, and that means it could cause the presidency to flip."

And if you've been hearing less about the Tea Party movement lately, supporters say the movement hasn't dwindled.

"Come the fall, when the contest is heating up, that's when you're going to see more activity," said Kaloogian.

Kaloogian says the "Tea Party Express" has not and will not be endorsing any Iowa candidates this year.

The tour will head to Lincoln and Omaha next.

In Nebraska the group is endorsing Attorney General Jon Bruning in his race for the Senate.
