SIOUX CITY, IA -
The Sioux City Parks Maintenance Department planted a Cleveland Pear tree near the Anderson Dance Pavilion, one of many areas that are replacing trees lost during last summer's flooding.
About 75 percent of the trees survived, but many have had to be replaced.
"In the more landscaped areas, we've taken out probably 75 trees, but the good news is we've put back 165 already this spring, so the last grouping was around the dance pavilion, there was 43 new crab apple trees there," said Kelly Bach, Parks Maintenance Field Supervisor
Helping the replanting effort, Mid-American Energy donated $20,000 to the city.
Within 10 years, the new trees should be full sized.
