(SIOUX CITY, IA) Whether you're walking, running, or simply enjoying a leisurely day at the park, there is no way to avoid seasonal allergies. And since spring is here, so are those nasty allergens. Monica Bravo may look like any normal child, but,
"She's allergic to the sun, so, every time the heat is really high, she kind of gets rashes all over her body," said Jennifer Luiz, Bravo's Sister.
Bravo has to stay in the house when the sun is at it's brightest, and can only come out when it's relatively cool outside. Her sister says their doctor prescribes cream to put over her body much like sun screen, but sometimes that isn't enough.
However, kids will be kids, and Monica's sister can't help but let her play once in a while.
"When we come out and it's really hot, we just come for a couple of hours, like one or two, we try to keep a limit on the time," said Luiz.
Allergy season is in full swing right now, and your best bet may be to go to a doctor and get an allergy test to figure out what you're allergic to. If you go to a park on a beautiful spring day, the first thing you want to do when you get home is take a shower, that way you don't spread the allergens to the rest of your home.
According to pollen.com, allergy levels are high in Sioux City - they started to spike a week ago.
A few more tips WEB MD says to take note of:
- Wash your bedding once a week in hot water to keep pollen under control.
- Clean every surface is your house to eliminate dust.
- Wash your rugs and mats once a week.
- Make sure you keep your windows closed so pollen can't get in, and chance your air conditioning filters units frequently during this time of year.
- Lastly, consider talking to your doctor about allergy medicine.
The pollen count is expected to be very high for the next several days - at least until Thursday - so make sure you take any medication you need, or just stay inside.
