(SIOUX CITY, IA) Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers gathered near the Federal Building in Downtown Sioux City to protest a bill before the U.S. Senate: Bill S–1789.
The group says the legislation threatens to cut Saturday delivery, door–to–door delivery and impose reduced standards on the U.S. Postal Service.
They're hoping they can appeal to Iowa Senator Tom Harkin to fight the bill and save as many as 80,000 jobs that could be jeopardized.
"Instead of closing postal plants, moving mailboxes, and closing down small town post offices, what we're saying is stop the pre–funding and let the postal service do what they do best," said protester Kevin Pettit.
A spokesperson for Senator Harkin spoke on his behalf to the protesters, saying he will make sure their voices are heard.
