"Among the corn fields, you have this oasis that is waiting for people," said Brett Caviness.
That Oasis is Lake Okoboji, and Caviness, a realtor in Spirit Lake says his agency saw a 60 percent increase in sales volume in just over a year.
And with the warm weather we've been experiencing, people are already out here enjoying the lake. Realtors say since interest rates are low, it makes housing more affordable.
"We just had such great conditions with unseasonably warm temperatures which really draws buyers and sellers out, gets them really ready to sell and buy. Low interest rates which are holding strong which is making it really affordable for some people to get in to some properties. So I think those things combined have made it for a really amazing spring and were hoping that things continue this year," said Caviness.
Caviness says that's not the only reason people come to Okoboji.
"It's not just about the house, it's not just about the view or the land, or your address necessarily, but what it is about is creating memories, and I think that's what's so powerful about Okoboji, because its where families have come for 10, 20, 30, 40, or more years," he said.
And Caviness thinks it's a sign that the economy is turning around.
"All across the country I think things are improving, so for us here to see such leaps and bounds happening in just the first few months of 2012, it's really encouraging for us and I think it's encouraging for our clients as well, and I think they're really gaining that confidence that's really important when your in that stressful process of buying and selling."
