Reporter Heather Leigh joined Siouxland News in February of 2012. She was born and raised in Palm Harbor, Florida, where she lived with her very supportive parents, five cats and three birds (It was just like a zoo).
Heather's experience comes from all areas of a working newsroom. She has engaged in almost every position a news station has to offer, including reporting, producing and areas in between. She can edit on pretty much any platform you put in front of her and has perfected her story telling skills from the best. Heather is a graduate from the University of South Florida.
During the spring and summer of 2009, Heather interned at WFLA in Tampa where she learned from two of the best reporters in the business, Mark Douglas and Yolanda Fernandez. After getting a taste for news at Channel 8, Heather went on to bigger and better things. She continued attending The University of South Florida, acquiring her Bachelors degree in Mass Communication. On the side, however, she played "pretend" reporter, as she likes to refer to it, by doing stories and producing packages for free just to gain exposure and experience. Heather couldn't resist her passion – reporting.
She decided to be adventurous and during the summer of 2011 she traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to complete an internship at the post news week station, Channel 4. It was there her efforts were truly noticed. The news director raved about Heather, giving her special assignments to do because she knew Heather was capable of handling them.
Since coming to Siouxland, Heather has had to make a few adjustments. First and for most, Heather had to purchase her first winter coat! Second, she purchased a 4X4 SUV so she could learn to drive in the snow! (Are you laughing yet? Good!)
Heather hopes to grow into a seasoned reporter and hopes to one day work for Dateline NBC. Her idol - Keith Morrison. Heather's always looking for story ideas and would love to hear from you. By email: Hleigh@siouxlandnews.com or on Facebook: Heather Leigh.
