With the retirement of Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson, the highly coveted seat is up for grabs and the Democratic Party hopes to keep it. Now there's speculation former Sen. Bob Kerrey's thrown his hat in the race.
"There's every indication that he will run for Senate again," said Nebraska Watchdog Managing Editor, Joe Jordan.
After all, everyone knows who Kerrey is... right? Wrong. Most people we spoke to in Dakota County didn't know who Bob Kerrey was. Pam Smith says she's heard his name, but how much does she know about him?
"Not really a whole lot, I just remember him from back quite a while ago," she said.
Bob Fletcher says he doesn't care who runs as long as a Democrat gets the seat.
"I think it's great, we need more Democrats in there, because if we get a Republican President we should have a Democratic Congress," he said.
Chuck Hassebrook, another Democrat, is running for the very same seat. He spoke with the Christian Science Monitor about a conversation with Kerrey. He said Kerrey "told me as recently as a few days ago that he would assist my campaign. I gave up my seat on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents based on his word, I do not believe he would go back on it."
Kerrey has until Thursday to make his official decision.
