(YANKTON, SD) Local military veterans get some much–needed help getting the benefits they deserve.
The Disabled American Vets group took its services on the road today to Yankton, South Dakota. The office provides claims assistance to veterans who aren't able to get to the regional office in Sioux Falls and receive help applying for health and living assistance. The non–profit organization says the sheer number of people showing up at the mobile site speaks for the importance of the program.
"Seeing about thirty veterans a day, that, in these rural areas, that means a lot of them aren't getting to Sioux Falls, or getting exactly quite the assistance they need, so that's where we come into the picture, and are able to help them out," says Coleman Bolling, National Service Officer.
The mobile DAV office sees about thirty vets per day while out in the communities it serves and can also file retroactive claims for people who've waited sometimes years for help.
