As the storms rolled through Siouxland last night. Union County, South Dakota, was hit hard.
This video was taken in the Dakota Dunes neighborhood. Power was knocked out, and at times the straight line winds reached 55 miles per hour. The area received nearly one and half inches of rain during the storm. Lots of rain and a mess to clean up this morning.
Strong winds were responsible for damage to several homes and campers in the Yankton area Sunday.
Emergency crews responded to reports of campers over turned and large trees and branches fallen on homes. Initial reports indicate at least a dozen campers in the Chief White Crane area were damamged and six to nine campers were damaged in the Cottonwood campground. Damaged homes were reported in the area as well. The same storm also produced a lightning strike and house fire in Yankton. There are reports of injuries related to the camper incidents, but none were life threatening.
The high winds were powerful enough to push a train cart off its tracks behind Interbake Foods in North Sioux City. Remarkably it was able to stay upright.
